NOT ACTIVE – Senior Data Scientist – Germany

About the job

Sometimes organisations take data for granted. Perhaps the changes you make go unnoticed. Here, it’s different. You’ll be joining an organisation that’s investing heavily in digital and data transformation.

You’ll be visible and valued here – a respected professional with the autonomy to turn innovative ideas into commercial change. Your work will drive faster, better decision making and, ultimately, help develop new therapies to improve human and animal health.

About the role

Part of the Innovation Unit of a top-20 global pharma business, you’ll be one of just two Senior Data Scientists in the global computational biology team. As the business undergoes a vast data transformation programme, you’ll lead on a range of data science and machine learning initiatives. By giving researchers and scientists improved access to data and digital tools, you’ll be shaping the future of R&D and playing a vital role in the drug discovery process.

It’s an ideal move for a collaborative data scientist who’s looking for added variety at work. Working across the full data science lifecycle, you’ll collaborate with developers, data engineers, UX designers and architects to build prototypes using your own models. Your work will span a broad range of data sets: population-scale genomics data, imaging data (digital pathology), as well as data from wearables, smart devices, EEGs and sensors.

You’ll be joining near the start of a wave of digital change, so you will need to be adaptable. At first, your role will include data wrangling, exploration and engineering. In time, you’ll find unrivalled training and career opportunities here, whether you want to sharpen your technical skills or to help develop the data scientists of the future.

What you need

This is a complex ecosystem with many specialist teams using different data sources and systems so you’ll need the all-round interpersonal skills (in English) to understand their pain points and to manage the demand for your skills. A PhD, Masters’ (or equivalent experience) in a field such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, life sciences, biology, physics or chemistry will add to your credibility.

You’re almost certainly someone who likes to stay abreast of industry trends and new technologies – if so, you’ll find plenty of opportunity here to inject new ideas and insights into your work.

Beyond that, we’re open minded about your background. Pharma experience isn’t essential but we’re looking for as many as possible of the following on your CV:

  • Programming skills in Python and associated Machine Learning Libraries
  • Experience working with large volumes of data from various sources and domains (preferable including life science data).
  • A record of planning and leading data science projects involving change management.
  • A proven ability to communicate complex mathematical and Machine Learning concepts and use cases to non-technical audiences.
  • Ideally, some experience working with DevOps and Cloud tools (Container tools, AWS, GCP, Azure, CI/CD).

About the business

You’ll be joining a global top-20 pharma business with a research-driven focus on innovative therapies that can extend patients lives. All in all, it’s a fantastic place to develop your career.

This thriving campus, near Ulm, is home to the company’s research and development teams for small molecules and biopharmaceuticals. Here, you’ll find some of the world’s best pharmaceutical minds doing life-changing work in an awe-inspiring setting. On-campus, there’s a strong spirit of freedom, fluidity and fierce collaboration and, outside work, plenty of space to find your ideal work-life balance.
