Data Engineer, Animal Health – £60-70k basic salary plus 10% bonus

If you’re as much of an animal lover as you are a data engineer, you won’t find a better opportunity to use your skills for good.

In this newly created role you’ll be setting up the data infrastructure that will help this thriving veterinary care company to hugely improve outcomes for pets – and their two-legged friends[MW1] .

It’s a role with the potential to be both personally and professionally satisfying. You’ll be the company’s first data hire, reporting directly to the MD. You’ll have a brief to challenge and shape the way the business uses data.

What’s the role?

You’ll become a pivotal presence in a fast-growing business with ambitious plans, a welcoming culture and a positive mission: improving healthcare outcomes for millions of animals.

Specifically, that means spearheading the development of a cutting-edge data integration platform, consolidating data from various sources around the business into a new proprietary client facing app. The app will enable appointment booking, reminders, digital payments and much more.

You’ll have a blank canvas and a big picture to paint. The tools and strategies, the architecture and workflows are up to you. You’ll cultivate relationships with colleagues in the development team and third-party app developers; you’ll meet stakeholders at different sites around the country as you look at how you can improve systems across the board.

As the company continues to grow, you’ll need to design scalable architectures to support their plans. You work will be central to helping the business sharpen customer insight, streamline management processes and, crucially, to improve clinical outcomes for animals and their owners.

What you can add:

Alongside a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, you’ll need a record of success spanning data engineering, database management and middleware development.

Beyond that, we’d like to see as much of the following as possible on your CV:

  • You must have a UK work visa already in place.
  • Able to set up, maintain and support a cloud data platforms/data lake such as Snowflake
  • A solid understanding of analytics, reporting and dashboarding technologies
  • Proficiency in API integration, and data extraction methodologies.
  • Strong coding experience in Python & SQL
  • You’re adaptable – someone who embraces new technology and responds positively to changing requirements.
  • Proven communication and teamwork abilities – your colleagues would describe you as enthusiastic and collaborative.

Provided you’re available to go into the office one or two days a week, the business is flexible about when and where you do your best work.
