NOT ACTIVE – Senior Principal Software Engineer (Frontend) – Hybrid – Connecticut & home office

Lead the way forward and make a real impact on the end product in this pivotal frontend job.

The goal is to create a tool that has a positive impact on toxicology evaluations. All with the aim of providing fresh insight for scientists on potential adverse effects in the drug development process.

You’ll be a mentor to others while contributing to wider technology decisions. You’ll introduce innovative ideas and develop software engineering knowledge and standards.

Working in a highly-collaborative team, there will be opportunities to influence the frontend development stack, train in other areas of interest and work across cutting-edge technologies.

And in this leading pharmaceutical company, there will be plenty of scope in the future to work on other products and services.

What’s the job?

You’ll be working on a groundbreaking big data project – the creation of an innovative, customisable search tool to support the drug development process for teams in their non-clinical data science area.

This first version of the application will allow scientists and researchers to search, retrieve and compare data from internal studies stretching back over three decades.

The aim is for the product to become more than just a data hosting and retrieval platform. The platform will have a level of functionality that allows individual users to create an environment that meets their needs. The easier users can view data, the more usable, and impactful, this data will be.

Your first six months will include a large amount of frontend development using Angular 11. Consulting with the team and business, you’ll be polishing and perfecting pieces of functionality.

The following six months will see the focus shift to identifying new ways of visualising the data through extensive use of CSS and D3. You’ll use your visual creativity to recommend new ways for scientists to view and work with the wealth of data available.

You’ll collaborate with a Backend Developer, Data Engineer, UX Designer, Product Owner and Scrum Master as well as other members of the IT function.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Regular meetings with members of the product team around problem-solving and creating usable prototypes and applications. Your role is to lead, advise and recommend.
  • Writing clean code using a variety of languages (Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript etc).
  • Mentoring others, carrying out code reviews with both frontend and backend developers, troubleshooting application and system problems and modeling best practices

What you’ll add

You’re someone who can lead the way forward technically, mentor others, and build connections with the wider organisation. You’ll be passionate about making a significant impact on the end product.

You’ll be able to influence the evolution of the frontend development stack and its platform strategy and roadmap.

In terms of skills and experience, you’ll add:

  • Advanced JavaScript / TypeScript knowledge;
  • Advanced Angular knowledge;
  • Advanced knowledge of data visualisation with CSS and other libraries like D3;

Working at a Senior Principal level, you’ll have the character and communication skills needed to mentor others. It’s important that you can concisely and professionally present your ideas and work with colleagues across the organisation.
