NOT ACTIVE – Senior Principal Scientist (Clinical Bioinformatics & Data Science) – €110,000 – €130,000 + 15% Bonus

Too often, there are barriers in the way of scientific discovery. This newly created role is different. Here, you’ll have the influence and investment to make genuine progress. Calling on your in-depth experience of data science and omics, you’ll play a pivotal role in helping this independent pharmaceutical business to reinvent R&D and to accelerate innovative new treatments.

You’ll be joining this trusted global pharma business at the right time, in the right job. The company is making a significant investment in the digital transformation of its Innovation Unit, which spans research, pre-clinical development, translational medicine, and clinical pharmacology. What’s more, because the business is privately owned, decisions are made for long-term, scientific reasons – not short-term shareholder gains.

What’s the role?

You’ll be the most senior hire to a new data science team that’s focused on translational medicine and clinical pharmacology. Your goal: to champion the development of innovative clinical bioinformatics and data science methodologies across multiple therapeutic areas.

This is as close to clinical development as you can get. Your team’s work will span complex large-scale multi-omics data analysis, ML (including image and speech data) and big data integration projects.

It’s a chance to be a strong voice for data science, whether you’re contributing to inter-departmental work with colleagues in data architecture, bioinformatics and pharmacometrics, guiding other data scientists or cultivating external partnerships – for example with academic researchers.

This is a focal area for the business – part of a shift to being more data-driven. That means you’ll have every encouragement – and ample investment – to foster a culture of empowerment, innovation and personal growth.

By inspiring and supporting people to do true data science, you’ll make a huge impact on reinventing R&D here. All in all, it’s a role that will open doors for you personally as well as accelerating clinical development.

What you can add

Alongside a PhD (in bioinformatics, data sciences, molecular biology, or a related field) – or a Master’s plus significant professional experience, you’ll bring long-standing experience working at the intersection of clinical bioinformatics and data science.

This could be in the pharmaceutical industry or perhaps with a CRO or regulatory agency. What matters is that you have experience in the advanced analysis/of omics and comprehensive knowledge of applying clinical bioinformatics/data science approaches to drug development.

Your technical skills are less of a priority – but any of the following would be an advantage: R; Python; pipelining languages, high-performance computing (cluster); AWS Cloud Platform.

Personally, you’ll need the communication (in English) and leadership skills to successfully manage clinical development teams. If you’re someone who enjoys cultivating relationships and supporting others to do their best work, you’ll be in your element in this collaborative, multi-cultural environment.

Provided you’re happy to travel to one of the German sites around 20% of the time, you’re free to work where and when suits you best. You could potentially be based anywhere in Germany.
