NOT ACTIVE – Principal Scientist (Knowledge Graphs/Semantic Web) – €96,000 – €106,000 + 15% bonus

Few people understand semantic data integration better than you? But could your work have more meaning?

This newly created role is a chance to use your skills to make a real-world difference. By helping to reinvent R&D for one of the world’s most forward-thinking pharmaceutical businesses, you’ll be helping scientists to discover breakthrough therapies.

What’s the role?

This is an influential senior research-focused role as part of a newly created data analytics group aiming to capture the transformational value of growing healthcare databases and biomarkers. Your decisions will shift the whole organisation to become more data-driven. Ultimately, you’ll be giving scientists and researchers access to the data they need to develop breakthrough treatments.

Working in a fascinating field, bringing together cross-functional data spanning multi-omics, MRIs, protein data, and medical records, you’ll have plenty of autonomy. Your remit includes:

  • Designing the data structure and data model; developing data workflows.
  • Defining the semantic models and the computation structure to integrate orthogonal data types from the healthcare/life sciences domain.
  • Building cross-functional linking/alignment of concepts, vocabularies, and taxonomies to seamlessly connect data from different domains.
  • Setting the standards that will ensure the long-term value of data, in line with FAIR principles.

What you can add

You’ll join the program in its early stages and see the impact of your work from start to finish. You don’t need pharmaceutical experience but you will need to be able to get to grips with the scale and complexity of the research environment. So too, you’ll need to think creatively and independently: it’s your role to bring structure from ambiguity.

Beyond that, we’re looking for someone with as many as possible of the following on their CV:

  • A Master’s or PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence/machine learning, data science, or a related field.
  • Expertise in machine learning, particularly predictive modeling.
  • A practical understanding of data integration and management concepts such as semantic data integration, data modeling, knowledge graphs, and FAIR principles.
  • Familiarity with semantic web technologies such as RDF, SPARQL, OWL, SKOS as well as knowledge concerning IT data infrastructures concepts like data lakes, data warehouses, or graph databases.
  • Experience in handling, ingesting, and cleansing data from multiple large external datasets.
  • In-depth understanding of data domains that are relevant for pre-clinical and clinical drug discovery and development, including clinical studies, molecular essays, genetics, and multi-omics data.
  • Confident communication skills – you’re capable of leading digital projects and able to persuade people to get on board with your ideas and strategies.

About the Organisation

You’ll be joining a global pharma business with a research-driven focus on innovative therapies that can extend patients’ lives; there’s always something new in the pipeline here.

Their forward-thinking philosophy enables them to invest heavily in unlocking the value of data as well as their people’s growth. All in all, it’s a fantastic place to develop your data career.
