NOT ACTIVE – Junior Data Scientist – UK – £30,000 – £40,000

What are your options at this stage of your data science career? Carry on doing what you’re doing and gradually grow your role. Or, accelerate your career by exposing yourself to a variety of different projects with a consultancy that’s really big on development.

This is your chance to take the second route. You’ll join a consultancy that’s delivered more than 400 successful projects for clients in healthcare, defence, local and central government. Their ethos is to use data for good, questioning assumptions and applying creativity to solve difficult problems for their customers.

If you’re happy working at pace, it’s a chance to tackle some really engaging, rewarding work, alongside a team of people who are genuinely positive about the impact they’re making.

What’s the role?

As a developing data scientist here, you’ll work on a range of projects – both internal and live, as part of a team comprising both client-facing and technical colleagues – Project, Managers, Business Analysts and Consultants. There’s plenty of variety – projects can span data strategy, discovery, interaction, interpretation, architecture and governance.

Your role includes evaluating models (working with structured and unstructured data sets), prototyping solutions, contributing to data preparation visualisation and analysis, and showing you can independently develop, run and test code.

In time, you’ll have the chance to learn new programming languages and pitch ideas. Typically, you’ll work on-site with clients one day a week and flexibly the rest of the time. Ideally, you’re based within easy reach of Bristol or Sheffield.

What you’ll gain

Professional development is a priority here with quarterly development reviews and ring-fenced development time in between live projects. You’ll have access to the company’s ‘data academy’, a wealth of online learning resources and recognised industry certifications (e.g. Microsoft, AWS).

You’ll gain a vast breadth of experience. Projects usually last 4-6 months so you’ll have the chance to help solve a variety of interesting and important problems for both public- and private-sector clients.

You’ll have the chance to gain new skills and embrace new technologies by working on internal ‘pilot’ projects where you’ll be learning alongside expert colleagues.

You’ll be part of a business who put ethics, respect, humility and quality at the heart of their work, using your skills to make a positive impact on society.

What you’ll bring

This is a supportive, collaborative company that’s passionate about its people – they want everyone to develop the things they’re good at and enjoy their work. So, wherever you’re working now, you’ll need a positive, proactive approach, plenty of initiative and ambition to learn.

You have EITHER professional experience in data analysis or data visualisation OR a Ph.D./Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or similar. Beyond that, we’re looking for as many as possible of the following on your CV:

  • Excellent code-writing ability using scripting languages such as Python or R, along with associated data science libraries.
  • A strong understanding of data analysis, pre-processing and statistics.
  • Proven communication skills – you can outline complex concepts in clear terms to both technical and non-technical audiences.
