Wouldn’t it be nice to be recognized for what you can do as a data scientist? The insight you can bring and the long-term solutions you can bring to life. Not the long hours you put in or the shortcuts you take.
In this influential role with a world-respected independent pharmaceutical business, that’s exactly what you’ll enjoy.
You’ll be part of a family-owned business, so the focus is on finding better outcomes for patients – not on generating short-term profits for shareholders. And, they understand that digital (including data science) has the power to unlock so many commercial possibilities.
So, as a senior data scientist in the Global Data Science (GDS) team, you’ll have both the influence and the backing to turn bright ideas into life-changing results. Previous projects include:
Where you fit in
On a day-to-day basis, the role is split roughly 50:50 between hands-on data science and running a small team in an enquiring, collaborative Agile environment.
You’ll be involved at the very start of the data science lifecycle, reviewing use cases and feasibility, then working closely with the Head of GDS to prioritise projects and allocate resources. From there, you’ll use your modelling skills to create working prototypes.
If your current role sometimes feels repetitive or too theoretical, you’ll relish the emphasis here on nurturing models through to successful production. And because you’ll be working with colleagues in many different business units, you’ll see a refreshing variety of projects and data sets.
As you grow into the role, you’ll be at the heart of reshaping the GDS team, influencing the way they work, inspiring fresh ideas and sharing the value the team can add with stakeholders across the business. You’ll have access to some amazing training that’s designed to keep you on top of your game, both technically and commercially.
A diverse Data Science community
You’ll be part of a diverse data science community that spans the world. Thirteen different nationalities. Introverts and extroverts. Experienced Data Scientists and people fresh out of their PhDs.
A healthy proportion of the data scientists in the company are women. Women are also well represented in management roles – of the six main DS teams based in Germany, half are led by women.
It makes for a smart, flexible, and highly productive working environment –if you’re looking for a better balance between work and life, without diluting the impact or complexity of what you’re doing or limiting your prospects, this is an ideal move.
What you need
The role would suit someone with a good blend of technical and people skills. Alongside a Masters (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Data Science, Maths, Stats (or similar) and experience of planning and progressing data science projects, you’ll need the all-round communication skills to cultivate fruitful relationships with your internal and external customers.
Technically, you’ll bring a proven programming ability, experience of working in an Agile culture and familiarity with as many of the following as possible:
